Beginning Fencing - Fall Teen Class & Adult Clinic!
Our 2008 summer teen fencing classes were so popular, we had a waiting list! So we have scheduled a fall class through Heartland Community College's Youth Enrichment Program. It will be on Monday nights for six weeks from September 15th through October 20th at the YWCA. Check Heartland's Community Education web site for details, or watch for their early fall brochure.
For adults, we will hold a three hour introductory clinic on Saturday, September 27th, from 9 a.m. to noon. This clinic is also listed with Heartland's Community Education program, and also held at the YWCA. Come and get a taste of fencing in just one morning!
Can't wait for a class? Can't make either of those classes? Then come to the club and learn as you go! That's how many of our members got started. There's always someone at our meetings who can help you begin to learn the basic skills.
Tournament Season to Start
Tournament schedules for Illinois and other divisions will be updated during August and can be found here. If you're a new fencer, or you started earlier this year, there is usually a very good nonelectric beginner tournament in St. Louis in November. If enough people are interested, we might be able to organize a group trip! We also plan to hold a club tournament this fall that can help you get ready.
More of our members are making the jump to USFA electrical competitions! With tournaments in Champaign every month, and in larger cities every week, there is no shortage of opportunities. Most tournaments are listed in the Fencing Results and Events Database (FRED), at AskFred.net!
Important note! Most electrical events require USFA membership. See the USFA website for more information.
Member Notes
Please be sure to turn in your dues around the first of each month. As always, checks can be made out to CISF, with the month written in the memo line, and turned in to Dave Duguid or another adult member.
